Nelson Mandela will now not attend the opening ceremony of the World Cup following ther tragic death of his great-granddaughter following a concert in Soweto on Thursday evening.
Zenani Mandela, 13, was killed in a car accident following the event held to mark the beginning of the tournament.
Mandela this morning learned of the tragic death of his great-granddaughter, Zenani Mandela, in a car accident. It would therefore be inappropriate for him to personally attend the 2010 FIFA World Cup opening celebrations," a statement from the Nelson Madela Foundation reads.
